Programs Offered

Nashoba Youth Hockey is a recreational youth hockey program with over 300 members throughout all levels of the program. Our members are from Westford, Littleton and Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, as well as nearby towns. Drawing members from our local geographic area is the traditional model of organizing recreational hockey in Massachusetts.

NYHA strives to teach the sport of ice hockey to the youth of Westford and Littleton. Our goal is to give every skater proficiency of skill on the ice and to foster good sportsmanship and good citizenship in all our members.

NYHA has travel teams at the Mite, Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget levels as well as Girls-only teams for various age levels. Our Learn-to-Skate and Learn-to-Play-Hockey programs are offered in the fall and in the winter.

NYHA teams participate in the Valley Hockey League and the Bay State Girls Hockey League.

How NYHA is Organized

Our legal name is Nashoba Youth Hockey Association. NYHA is a Chapter 180 non profit corporation registered in Massachusetts. Our fiscal year begins on July 1st of each year.

NYHA is an affiliate of Massachusetts Hockey and USA Hockey, which is empowered to govern the sport of ice hockey in the United States by federal legislation. We are required to comply with the rules and regulations of these organizations as an affiliated organization. These rules and regulations have been developed in an effort to improve the sport of ice hockey. Printed copies of the rules are available from the NYHA Registrar.

NYHA has its own set of By-Laws by which it is organized. There is a nine member Board of Directors. Board members are elected by the membership for 2-year terms, with three members elected one year and four elected the next year on a staggered basis. Elections for the Board are held at the organization's annual meeting held in the spring. The Board of Directors meets monthly during the hockey season; all board meetings are open to the public. The Board of Directors may meet during the off-season but not on a regular basis.

Volunteer Opportunities

Since NYHA is a volunteer organization, many opportunities exist for parental involvement -- coaching, assistant coaching, becoming a team manager, helping with NYHA fund-raising efforts, even running for a position on the Board of Directors.

NYHA Season

NYHA begins each season with evaluations, usually held in late winter. Members are notified by their prospective coaches as to team selection, typically by the end of May. Team practices and games begin in mid-September. Team schedules are distributed by each team's Team Manager.

NYHA's regularly scheduled practices and games end by early April, with league playoffs held shortly thereafter.
